A Mother’s Divine Love: Join the heart-pounding chase as a mother dog chases a truck determined to keep her rescued children safe and will she succeed?

Moms will do everything in their power to keep their little ones safe. This is true for both us humans and animals. Animal mamas want to keep their babies safe no matter what.

This instinct is very important for survival.
Our babies wouldn’t be doing too well if moms didn’t care for them!
Since so many of us can connect with that kind of unconditional love, it warms our hearts when we see it play out in real life. The story of one little dog mom shows just how far a mom will go to be with her kids.

Karlee is a dog rescue volunteer working to find a group of puppies she had heard about.

On Jeju Island, South Korea, Karlee got word of a litter of pups hiding under a woodpile.
When locals realized that the wood scrap was going to be taken and demolished, the situation became urgent. Since the area was so large, it would take a team to find the pups in time.

Arriving at the construction site, the team laid traps with food and water.

The goal was to catch the puppies and make sure they were safe and out of harm’s way. Using food and water, things that stray dogs don’t get a lot of, Karlee was finally able to tempt them from the massive woodpile and into their care. Every day she would come on her lunch break and after work to see if they could catch the pups.

After three or four days, the little ones finally came out!
They were initially really skittish but were lured to safety. Even with the first part of the “mission” completed, the team still had more to do.

Puppies of this age weren’t living alone.
Their mom was somewhere in the area, and the team had no idea how they would find her. The puppies were localized, but a mama dog could be anywhere.

In her daily search for food or resources, who knows how far the mama dog roamed? Each day the team would see if they were able to find the mom hanging around the site. Finally, after days of searching, they got their first sighting.

Despite seeing her for the first time, progress was slow on rescuing the mom.

Like many street-smart strays, the mama was extremely skittish and wouldn’t get near any humans.
Even tempted with treats and food, she refused to go near. The situation was dire, and since the island was so remote, there was no way to trap her conventionally.

Finally, they tried using the only thing that was left.

Nothing, not food, shelter, or cages, was working. The only leverage that they had the puppies. In a flash of genius, they decided to use the puppies as a lure.

Putting the puppies on the back of a truck, they started for Karlee’s house.
The mama dog chased the truck for the entire 10-minute drive back!

The mama dog chased the truck all the way back to Karlee’s home, keeping it in her sights at all times. After that, it in her sights at all times. After that, it took a few weeks before the mom felt comfortable enough to go into the house. But once she did, everything was good from there.

Once the mama dog finally stepped through the doorway of Karlee’s house, something remarkable happened—her entire demeanor changed. As if realizing that this place was now a sanctuary for her and her babies, her wariness began to melt away, little by little. The transformation was slow and cautious, but it was there. At first, she lingered near the entrance, never venturing far inside. But as the days passed, she allowed herself to relax just enough to eat the food left for her, and eventually, she curled up beside her puppies on a soft blanket for the first time.

Karlee knew it would take time to earn the trust of a dog that had likely experienced abandonment or trauma. She didn’t push or pressure the mother dog. Instead, she gave her space, speaking gently, sitting nearby but not intruding, and letting the dog come to her on her own terms. The moment the mama dog accepted a treat directly from Karlee’s hand was a milestone—small, but profound. It meant trust was beginning to take root.

Meanwhile, the puppies were thriving in the safe, warm environment. No longer skittish and hiding under scraps of wood, they began to show their playful, affectionate sides. They explored the corners of Karlee’s home, wagging their little tails and tumbling over each other in their games. Their transformation was nothing short of magical.

Watching the puppies grow stronger each day reminded Karlee of the urgency that had once defined their rescue. What if no one had intervened? What if the woodpile had been cleared before anyone knew they were there? It was a sobering thought—and a powerful reminder of how much of a difference one person’s compassion can make.

As the days turned into weeks, the mama dog—who Karlee named Hana—began forming a bond not only with her puppies but with Karlee herself. Where once there was distrust and fear, there was now a hesitant but growing affection. Hana followed Karlee from room to room, watching closely but no longer cowering. She even began to nudge Karlee’s hand gently with her nose, silently asking for attention.

One quiet morning, Karlee sat on the floor with a bowl of food in her lap. Hana approached slowly, cautiously, and instead of eating, she placed her head on Karlee’s knee. It was a small act, but to Karlee, it felt like the world shifted. That single moment confirmed that Hana felt safe. She had allowed herself to let her guard down—if only for a moment—and trust a human.

The next step was finding permanent homes for the puppies. Each one had developed a unique personality. One was feisty and always the first to explore new places, another loved to snuggle into Karlee’s arms and nap, while the smallest of the litter was surprisingly brave and always stood between his siblings and perceived danger. Karlee began posting about them on social media, sharing their stories and progress.

The response was overwhelming. Messages flooded in from people all over South Korea—and even abroad—asking about adoption. Everyone was moved by the story of the mama dog who had chased a truck for ten minutes to stay with her babies. People wanted to be part of that love story.

Karlee was meticulous in choosing new homes for the pups. She conducted interviews, home checks, and made sure each potential adopter understood the commitment they were making. Slowly, one by one, the puppies began leaving for their forever homes. Each goodbye was bittersweet, filled with tears and joy. Karlee knew they were going to loving families, but having watched them grow from frightened little creatures to playful, trusting puppies, she couldn’t help but feel a tug at her heart with every departure.

Hana watched as each of her puppies left. At first, she seemed confused. She sniffed their bedding and searched the house after they were gone. But Karlee stayed close, offering comfort and reassurance. Over time, Hana seemed to understand that her puppies were safe. They weren’t lost—they were loved. She began to spend more time relaxing, even playing a little herself. It was as though she finally realized that her job as a protector was done.

And then, something unexpected happened—someone reached out, asking to adopt Hana.

At first, Karlee wasn’t sure she was ready to let Hana go. The bond they had formed was deep, and Karlee had become the first human Hana had trusted in what was likely a very long time. But after talking with the potential adopter, something clicked. This person was patient, gentle, and experienced with rescue dogs. Most importantly, they didn’t just want a dog—they wanted Hana.

The day Hana left was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Karlee walked her to the car, holding her leash gently, her voice trembling as she said goodbye. Hana turned back one last time, as if to say thank you, before stepping into her new life.

The weeks that followed were quiet. Karlee often found herself thinking about the woodpile, the cold nights, the tense days of waiting. She thought of the truck ride, the chase, the hesitant first touch. She thought of the love that had driven Hana to follow her babies wherever they went. That kind of love—that instinct to protect, to sacrifice—was something that resonated deeply. It was something Karlee would carry with her forever.

She stayed in touch with all the families who adopted the pups. They sent photos of the dogs playing in parks, sleeping in cozy beds, and celebrating birthdays with dog-friendly cakes. Hana, too, was flourishing. Her new owner sent regular updates: Hana cuddled up on the couch, Hana playing with toys, Hana running across grassy fields with a big doggy smile. The shy, skittish stray had become a beloved family member.

Karlee printed out one of the photos and framed it. It showed Hana sitting in the sun, her head tilted slightly, eyes filled with peace. Beneath the frame, Karlee wrote a simple line: “She chased love—and found it.”

And in that quiet corner of her home, Karlee smiled. The world can be hard. But stories like Hana’s remind us that even in the darkest places—under piles of forgotten wood or behind walls of fear—hope can still be found. All it takes is a little patience, a lot of love, and someone willing to believe that every life is worth saving.
